Magnetic levitation¹ is an exciting way to explore magnetism and its potential. With this Magnetic Levitation Kit from QuantumLeviation.com, you can experiment with levitating objects and construct your own maglev track. Suitable for kids and adults alike; an easy introduction to magnetism.
Learn the Basics Behind Magnetic Levitation
Magnetic levitation uses magnetic forces to levitate an object and even allow it to move with minimal friction along a magnetic track. Two magnets repel one another when their opposite poles are close together. A well-balanced setup of these two magnets can result in a levitation effect – where an object appears to be floating in mid-air! With a magnetic levitation kit, you can experience this awesome effect.
Assemble Your Levitating Magnet Kit
The first step to exploring magnetic levitation is assembling your own magnetic track. Construct the track with individual magnets on the included steel base. The cube NdFeB magnets are optimized to give the strongest levitation while being easily manipulated. Once the track is built, the next step is to create a magnetic car. Arrange magnets in an opposite (to the track) orientation and test the stability of the motion.
From there, you can begin investigating the levitation itself – how high the car levitates, the maximal weight it can carry, its stability and more. You can play with different magnetic configurations for both the track and the car itself.
Experiment with Different Objects and Combinations of Magnets
With the DIY Magnetic Levitation Kit, you can experiment with the levitation forces of different objects and combinations of magnets. Try placing small magnetic and non-magnetic objects between the car and the track explore how they change the magnetic fields and the levitation itself. Find the optimal magnetic combination for both the track and the car.
